What you need to know about talking to your provider

Female diseases concept. Stethoscope near female sign on dark wooden background top view.

The medical system is confusing and overwhelming. In my opinion, it is broken. Most doctors, including myself, were not taught about nutrition and lifestyle modifications. Some doctors practice in a traditional model, and some are more open to integrating holistic solutions. I encourage you to seek a healthcare professional that makes you feel comfortable and listened to. Whether that is a naturopathic doctor, MD, functional medicine provider or chiropractor, make sure to get the answers you need.

I put together a FREE guide that includes how what to bring to the provider on your visit and what to ask for. I think it will help you advocate for yourself and get the ANSWERS you deserve

I AM HERE TO HELP YOU ACHIEVE YOUR WELLNESS GOALS.

What to bring to your visit with your provider

List of symptoms that are bothering you.

For suggestions for what tests to order, see my guide if you want a handout to bring with you.

Any food journals or symptom journals you have obtained.

There are 3 types of tests:

  1. Blood: most common test because it is widely available. The disadvantages are it is a one-time picture of your hormones’. And does not do a good job of assessing the fluctuations of hormones that occur throughout the day especially the sex hormones and stress hormone (cortisol)
  2. Saliva: typically is not covered by insurance so less likely to see it in a traditional DR office. It is a good test for assessing sex hormones and cortisol levels as it is done several times/day. Disadvantages as the quality of the tests can be variable. Taking the samples can also be difficult for some clients.
  3. Urine: very easy to get a sample. The tests are really accurate for sex hormone assessment as it can check for metabolites. Limited availability is only downside.
